they would cut the last two chapters. My wife would agree with that statement 100%. We just welcomed our second child into the world last week! We are so happy to have him in our arms, especially my wife. Those last two chapters were not comfortable. Low back pain, rib pain, and varicose veins make it difficult to be comfortable any time. It has been reported that approximately 50% of all pregnant women experience back pain during their pregnancy and 50% to 75% of women experience back pain during labor.

healthy. well hydrated person. water molecule. wet. There are lots of ways to finish the sentence. How important is water?
Here are ten important benefits of drinking enough water
DRINK HALF YOUR BODY WEIGHT IN OUNCES. Example: If I weigh 160 pounds I should drink 80 ounces a day.
How is your hygiene? I recently went to the dentist for a teeth cleaning and check up. No cavities, yay! The dental hygienist said that I have healthy gums and teeth (she also said I have a nice smile, but I think they say that to everyone). So, what's the difference between no cavities and hippo man pictured above? Easy answer, brush and floss everyday. As I was getting my teeth cleaned the parallels between dental hygiene and spinal hygiene were too large to ignore. Avoid cavities (pain/back surgeries) by brushing and flossing (moving/stretching) and getting regular check ups and cleaning (chiropractic adjustments). The difference between a healthy back and one that suffers from pain is in the day to day care of the spine. If you are in pain or know someone in pain, the good news is that there is help! We focus on getting people out of pain and teaching proper spinal hygiene to keep the pain away. Our bodies are designed to move and be pain free. Everyone deserves to enjoy life. If a joint or muscle is hurting, it is because something is not right with the alignment of the joints or muscles. The first thing we do with new patients is check the posture. This gives us clues on where the real problem is coming from. Once corrected, the pain goes away! Call today to get your alignment checked and prevent pain! Patriots Super Bowl ring 2005 I never played football, but it's possible to win a Super Bowl one day. Yesterday I had lunch with quite a few doctors of chiropractic at my continuing education class. I was fortunate enough to sit by Dr. Michael Miller from Norwood, MA. Dr. Miller was wearing a ring that looks just like the one in the picture. I could tell by looking at him that it wasn't likely that he was a player on the Patriots any time recently (no offense intended, he is in great shape). Dr. Miller must have read my mind and informed me he is the team chiropractor for the New England Patriots! Then he let me hold the ring. Cool. Since this would seem like every sports chiropractor's dream job I asked a few more questions. He told me that while all NFL teams have a team chiropractor, not all teams require players to get their spines checked. He said he is much busier than some NFL chiropractors because the Patriots require certain players get adjusted. Seems like the Patriots might know what they are doing. The world's top athletes often attribute their performances to help from chiropractors. Recently (before the knee injury) Derek Rose made mention on national TV how his chiropractor helped him (see video HERE.) They already know that an adjustment will increase optimal performance and function. If the world's top athletes see the need to get adjusted, don't you think you might have one too? I do know if I'm ever going to win a Super Bowl, it is going to be by helping the athletes on the field perform like champions. p.s. The picture below is where the convention was held at Boca Raton Resort and Club. It was amazing and I didn't even stay there! Wish I would have got a picture of the ring on my finger... It's Flag Day! And the birthday of the Army! I came across this article recently about the military and chiropractic care. There is no group of people that need chiropractic care more than the military. The extra strain they put on their musculoskeletal and nervous system NEEDS extra attention through chiropractic care! Have a read of the article below. A piece of legislation passed by the U.S. congress on May 18, 2012 made strong pro-chiropractic statements while recognizing the benefits of chiropractic care for the men and women serving in the military. The original bill, numbered HR 4310, and titled the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013, not only spoke to the benefits of chiropractic care for the military, but also noted that chiropractors are presently not paid at parity for their professional services as compared to other professionals who care for the military. The language of the portion of the bill that addresses chiropractic is as follows HERE June 14th is also right in between some birthdays in our family. We celebrated with a firetruck cake, which I think is pretty American. Mmmm... Firetruck cake... I have a terrible weakness. I love chocolate. I have a hard time saying no to chocolate. I try to justify my guilt by finding research about the health benefits of chocolate. click here
I know I shouldn't eat the amount of chocolate I do. Fortunately I've found a substitute that will change me forever. Raw brownies! I have to give credit to my friend Aaron who introduced me a couple weeks ago. I've been hooked ever since. If you google "raw brownie recipes" there are a bunch and I'm still experimenting with which I like best. The best way to improve our health is through small changes that will last. Starting a diet does no good if you don't stick with it. Make lasting changes by changing small habits. I eat healthier brownies now. Small change, but it will have a lasting impact on me and my family. Drinking more water is another simple change we can all apply to our lives. Drinking more water has incredible health benefits. Click here to see some. How do you make those changes? One step at a time. Here are some more tips to help with your healthy habit changes. What will you change to improve your health? Exercise? Diet? Mental stress? You decide! __ ob·sta·cle/ˈäbstəkəl/Noun:A thing that blocks one's way or prevents or hinders progress. Saturday was a day of overcoming obstacles. I participated in a "mud run" with my brother and a friend currently in chiropractic school. This mud run was about 4 miles and filled with obstacles like climbing over an 8 foot wall, 20 foot drops into a lake, monkey bars over mud pits, crawling through mud under barb wire, and lots of other creative fun ideas the race directors came up with. Each obstacle was a challenge to overcome. At the finish line I was tired, but the feeling of accomplishment was great. Why would running through cow pastures and overcoming obstacles (the race is called FL Running Obstacle Course) feel so great? It feels great because it was difficult. Most things in life are difficult. It feels so GOOD when we accomplish them! Every calamity is to be overcome by endurance. - Virgil This quote refers to the patience often necessary to reach those goals. With most patients in the office we start out with goals to decrease pain, improve function, and achieve optimum wellness. It doesn't happen overnight. When it does happen, we celebrate. We are here to help you overcome your obstacles andachieve your goals, whatever they are. Here is a link to a great article on how chiropractic can help with weight loss goals. p.s. On a side note I did pretty good finishing 5th overall in the race and first in my age group!
This a common question a few of our patients get on a regular basis. They are wearing Kinesio Tape. What is Kinseo tape you ask? Well, let me explain what it does and how it can help more conditions than just shoulder pain. The tape is applied over muscles to reduce pain and inflammation, relax overused or tired muscles, and support muscles in movement on a 24-hour-a-day basis. The taping is non-restrictive and allows for full range of motion. Here is a bullet point list of what it can do:
We have seen great success in Edgewater with the use of Kinesio Tape. We have had a shoulder that has ached for 20 years nearly resolve in pain. We have had heal pain of 2 years caused by trauma seem to dissolve away after an application.
What can Kinesio tape do for you? _ “God heals and the doctor takes the fee.”
Benjamin Franklin When was the last time you were sick? What were your symptoms? Runny nose, cough, sneezing, fever, cold sweats, vomiting, diarrhea? Unpleasant as those symptoms are, why do we have those symptoms? If you are as smart as I think you are, then you probably responded with something like “so your body can get rid of what is causing the sickness.” Congratulations! You win a prize! Most medications we take are for our symptoms to make us feel better while the body heals. If you have a bacterial or viral infection, your body is going to fight it the best you can. Make sure your body has all the right tools to help it fight the sickness. Here are a few suggestions. Zinc – A Conchrane review was conducted in Feb 2011 concluded: Zinc administered within 24 hours of onset of symptoms reduces the duration and severity of the common cold in healthy people. Give me some zinc! Wash your hands- the average person touches their face three to five times every waking minute. So that means on the high side, subtracting eight hours for sleep, the average person is touching their face a whopping four thousand, eight hundred times a day! Think about it…how many times have you touched your face today? What did you touch prior to that? Money? A doorknob? Toilet lid? Lightswitch? A pen? Your keys? Someone else? You get the picture – germs get transmitted easily through your touch. Get Adjusted! – There has been increase in evidence recently showing the positive effects of an adjustment on the immune system. Consider it an immune system booster! For a summary of the research I found this blog useful http://freespinalexam.com/blog/tag/immune-system/ In a Consumer Reports survey last year, chiropractic was the second most effective for treatments for cold, flu, bronchitis, and sinusitis with those who used it saying 47% saying it "helped a lot"! _ To properly debate health care vs. sick care we need to define health. What is health to you? The World Health Organization gives a splendid definition. "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." America spends more per person (roughly $7,500) on health care than any other country in the world, for a total of 2.26 trillion dollars. That means we should be the healthiest country in the world, right? Not even close. We rank 42nd in the world in life expectancy. The leading causes of death in America are heart disease, cancer, lower respiratory , stroke, and diabetes. We are dying younger than 41 other countries that spend less on health care than us because we are not preventing the disease, but treating the symptoms. _ I’m not against taking medications recommended by your primary care physician. I’m against taking medications from your doctor with no plans to change your life to become healthier. On the website of Lipitor (one of the leading prescription drugs in America) it says:
Atorvastatin (Lipitor) is used along with diet, exercise, and weight-loss to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke and to decrease the chance that heart surgery will be needed in people who have heart disease or who are at risk of developing heart disease. Taking a medication to cover up the symptoms but not fix the CAUSE of the problem is part of the health care problem in America today. We are not healthy because we are looking for a quick fix. Diet, exercise, and weight loss are not the quick easy road to health. It is a lot easier to take a pill, but that does not fix the real problem. Lifestyle changes have to be made. Chiropractic has a similar philosophy. We look to correct the CAUSE of the problem, not to cover up the pain with medication. Once the CAUSE is corrected, there is no problem! Read the definition of health above again. Are you healthy? What do you need to do to become healthy? |
