Digital Motion X-Ray (DMX) Is Essential In Detecting Hidden Injuries After A Car Accident Whiplash Injury You were stopped at a red light when another car hit you going 25 mph from behind. It was so sudden. Your neck whipped backward and forward violently. And now you have headaches, neck pain and stiffness that won't go away. Your doctor ordered the usual tests — X-rays CT scan, MRI— which he said came back "normal." So you went home with a prescription for muscle relaxant and pain medicine for your undiagnosed whiplash injury AND you still have no idea why you’re hurting. Weeks after your car accident, you’re still in pain.

We are excited to announce Dr. Tiffany Kelly joined our team at Coastal Chiropractic recently. She brings excellent chiropractic skills and knowledge to the office. So you can get to know her a little better we had her write a little about herself and how she got involved we chiropractic. I'm a "mover and a shaker". Yes, I've always been fascinated by movement. Growing up as a dancer and gymnast, I was constantly intrigued by human movement and function. My inquisitive mind wouldn't let me sit still. I was the tactile one who always needed to find out how things worked. I grew up as the second of four kids in a family where service came first. My parents were big believers that the best way to show gratitude for what we had was to share our generosity and our talents. At 17 years old I experienced the benefits of chiropractic care while interning for a chiropractor in MA. I wasn't in pain, but after receiving care I began experiencing greater forms of health I didn't even know I had. I was convinced that I would serve others by helping them unlock this unused potential through chiropractic care. That internship lead into my freshman year of college where I found myself starting my degree as a Kinesiology Major and Neurology Minor at Gordon College in Wenham, MA. Throughout school, I wanted to take blend my academic and philanthropic passions. I created a Physical Coordination Program for post stroke victims, Parkinson’s patients and other patients with motor deficits at the Center for Balance Wellness and Mobility, and worked in the Parkinson's Rehabilitation Program. Upon graduating I immediately started my doctor of chiropractic degree at Palmer College of Chiropractic, as school I had admired since I was 18. Palmer College of Chiropractic in Florida was a change from growing up in New England my entire life, but I immediately fell in love with the school and the community and am proud to call Florida my new home. While at Palmer I learned the most important philosophies behind how and why I practice. I learned the importance of letting the body heal itself and understanding the patient as a whole. I have modeled my methods of care on that philosophy. I want to help patients realize their physical health, emotional , mental and spiritual health. After holding several leadership positions and being a Teaching Assistant for a 6 courses, I found my passion in the clinic where I devoted countless hours. Patient care, combined my academic mind and my passion for service. I had spent two school breaks serving as chiropractor for underprivileged communities in the Dominican Republic with Chiromission. Upon graduating from Palmer, I was awarded the Clinical Excellence Award. After leaving Palmer, I felt called to continue serving the people of the Dominican Republic. I just completed an 8 month mission trip through Chiromission and now serve as a board member. I strive to meet patients where they are in their journey to wellness. I consider it a true honor to work with people from all walks of life and encourage them along their road to healing. I am so blessed and so excited to be part of this practice and this community, that's working towards a world of wellness. Come get to know Dr. Kelly and schedule an appointment so we can go over your case with her together. It's Back to School Time Again! There is excitement in the air as students head back to the classrooms. We are getting involved as well with our annual school supplies drive. We have had AWESOME participation so far from the community and already had to drop off supplies at area schools because we don't have enough space to store it in the office! Ask Amy or Ashley how you can get involved and help out our local schools today. In the meantime here are a couple of important reminders for all parents this school year. 1. Get your kids checked for scoliosis! Scoliosis checks are always FREE for children at Coastal Chiropractic. The sooner a potential problem is discovered the better chance you give your child. 2. Go easy on the backpacks. Some kids out there are little squirts and it's not good for their backs to carry so much weight. The American Chiropractic Association recommends no more than 10% of the child's weight. 3. Help your child focus. How? Well, there is growing research showing the effectiveness of ADHD and chiropractic care. In our office recently we have seen similar results with patients of all ages, not just children. Welcome back to school and give you children the best start to the new year! This past week in the office we had a couple of pregnant women come into the office experiencing back and neck pain. Their primary concern is the welfare of the baby and are hesitant to take any kind of medication for pain relief. Why do pregnant women have more aches and pains in the joints and muscles? And what can be done to help? I came across this article on Pub Med this week explaining why pregnant women tend to have some of the pains they do. As most patients in our office know, we have curves in our spine that help support our weight. Chiropractic is the branch of healing arts that deals with structure and function. Chiropractors have found that if there is pressure along the spine, irritating and interfering with the nerve, it will cause pain (function). It is highly probable that it will affect muscles, joints, blood vessels and even organs and glands (structure). It is the chiropractor's job at Coastal Chiropractic Clinic to determine if such a problem exists and if it can be relieved. Advanced technology and extensive diagnostic training assure the chiropractic physician - and you - that the findings are valid and prognosis reliable. No potential harmful substances are introduced into the body, nor is any part of the body cut away. If your chiropractor cannot find the cause of your problem, you will be referred to another specialist. Statistics reveal that 85 PERCENT OF PATIENTS TREATED CHIROPRACTICALLY BECOME SYMPTOM-FREE or show improvement. It is possible that some conditions may have progressed to the point where the body's natural recuperative powers have become ineffective. CHIROPRACTIC CAN HELP MAINTAIN OR RESTORE YOUR GOOD HEALTH. Here is a video of our digital motion x ray machine. This is actually my neck.
Also some interesting news: The speed at which accident victims may be injured in rear-impact car crashes is amazingly low. Recent research articles have shown that the human threshold for neck injuries in a rear-impact automobile collision is only 2.5 mph. For years the personal injury field has used 5 mph as a consensus figure for injuries. Brault, et al has shown that the 5 mph figure was indeed double the actual figure. Others have shown that slow speed collisions actually cause more injury than collisions with more vehicle damage. Common Medical Mistakes: •Assuming you are not injured because your pain is mild •Assuming you aren’t hurt because your car wasn’t •Believing the ER doctor when he or she says “it’s just a strain, you’ll be better in a couple of days…” •Treating with non auto accident specialists like your general chiropractor, family medical doctor, HMO doctor, etc. Accident injuries are not the same as gardening strains, and require advanced training. (Source Dr Barry Marks) Rest assured all the doctors and therapists at Coastal Chiropractic Clinic are highly trained experts - not only in health & wellness, but also personal injury care. If you have been in an accident get checked immediately. New Florida laws require a checkup within two weeks or you lose all your health benefits. It is common to feel little or no pain just after an accident, a few simple tests by an expert can determine if there are any injuries.
Hometown news was great and published this picture of the Ribbon Cutting!
We are so happy in our new office! Finally we have room to breathe and expand our services to help more and more people live healthier and happier lives. We are continuing to make improvements to the building and the layout so that every patient is able to receive the best care possible with the best results possible. I'm going to include a few pictures of our updated treatment room as well. We've added half walls to increase privacy while getting adjusted. Patients will continue to get the same great results as before with no wait times. The best news of last week was that we are now able to offer
We had some helpers cut the ribbon.
It is now official! We have been in the new office for two weeks and it is AWESOME! We made it official on Thursday with our ribbon cutting ceremony (thank you City of Edgewater). We had a great turnout to enjoy tours of the new office and see all the great improvements for our patients. Everyone enjoyed the catered food from Blue Mule Deli in Edgewater and Beef O Brady's in New Smyrna Beach. Most got to enjoy the free chair massages and we gave away lots of great gift baskets from Ramunto's Pizza, Heath's Health food, and many others. Everything is so much better about this office I don't know where to start. Let's start with the

We are moving to a NEW BETTER location! Our first day of seeing patients at the new office will be July 8th. We will be better able to serve all our patient's needs at our new office. Here is a list of new services we will be offering: 1. We will be adding massage therapy shortly after moving. 2. We will be adding rehab services to achieve even better results (I know you are asking if that's even possible). 3. We will be upgrading to digital x ray. Wait, not just digital x ray, but digital MOTION x ray. That means we can take a small video clip of you moving as an x ray. This can really help diagnose more complex cases as well as help with car accident and whiplash cases. 4. We will continue with the same AWESOME chiropractic services and adjustments and all the same staff. Please stay tuned for upcoming announcements on the Ribbon Cutting and Open House which will both be held in July. We will have door prizes, raffles, free chair massages, free food, and more! I know you are excited. “The hands-on, active care of doctors of chiropractic and their advice on a healthy lifestyle are essential to our military men and women.” Retired U.S. Army Brigadier General & First Female West Point Graduate to be promoted to that position— Becky Halstead BRIGADIER GENERAL Most everyone is thinking of what to cook on the grill about right now in preparation for Memorial Day. Well, maybe it's just me, but I wanted to take a minute to remember those who served and how we can serve them. I had the privilege of hearing General Beck Halstead speak in person about her experience with chiropractic care. |
